The Art of Fishing Without Fishing

It looks like such an innocuous and peaceful activity, angling. An activity that gives over to contemplation and a meditative spirit. But what are you actually doing with that long rod with a hook on the end of it? What are you actually angling for? Are you angling for your Self, as a meditative spirit would imply, or are you angling perversely for some poor unsuspecting creature that is just trying to get on with its life and with its living? Can you not just perch aside the loch without this rod and hook? And really meditate? Or does your spirit require you to gouge and hook, pierce and probe, intrude and invade, tamper and toy with? In which case, the 'spirit' that you are supplicating and invoking is not a spirit but a demon.
